About Me

Training and Qualifications

I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor having studied for an MSc and two diplomas in Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Metanoia Institute in London.  I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and also the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).  I am also a member of the British Association of the Person-Centred Approach (BAPCA) and the World Association for Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy and Counselling (WAPCEPC).

I am trained to work with couples having gained an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate in Person-Centred Couples work.

I have a Certificate in Affect Regulation and Neuroscience and have attended training courses on 'Working at the Difficult Edge' which has provided me with practical knowledge of working with contact-impaired clients (pre-therapy), autistic process, dementia clients, psychiatric settings for therapy, as well as adolescent and teenage clients.

I have attained an MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and its applications which includes a qualitative research study.

I abide by the BACP's Ethical Framework and the UKCP's Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct.

Experience

I have been a practising therapist with individuals and couples for almost 5 years and have worked in a variety of settings.  In addition to my private practice, I am the resident volunteer therapist for a residential care home in Bucks, providing counselling and psychotherapy support to the staff there.

I worked for 3 years at a Day Hospice dealing with complex bereavement issues for people both with life threatening illness as well as traumatic and premature death of a loved one.  I have also worked in a generalist counselling service in West London meeting clients with a broad range of issues and challenges.

I design and deliver workshops for other therapists on topics of common interest.  Some examples of areas of interest would be anxiety, depression, anger and relationships.

Whilst I have specific interest in these areas, I do not specialise in them as I believe that every client is unique and that it is the quality of the relationship that is at the heart of successful therapy.  The range of issues that I have had experience of includes:

Relationship difficulties (including family problems)
Anxiety and/or panic attacks
Addiction
Anger
Abuse
Depression
Stress (work/exam/personal)
Bereavement (and other forms of loss)
Redundancy
Personal and/or career development
Low self-esteem/confidence
Suicidal thoughts
Desire for self-awareness

Outside of counselling I have experience of working in learning and development roles for large corporates designing and delivering leadership and management workshops as well as providing executive and career coaching.

I believe my role is to help you discover who you want to be and to work with you to close the gap between this and the reality you might experience today.

I believe everyone has a power within them to be in the life they want to be in.  My work is to help you and others discover it.
